Meet Mike

R: Hi Mike, tell me a little about yourself?

M: Hi, I’m Mike.  Well, as you all know I’m unemployed and looking for work.  I recently graduated with an MBA from Georgetown University and am looking to begin my career in marketing here in the Bay Area.

R: Tell me about your experience at Georgetown?

M: The majority of my studies were focused on marketing and strategy and I did my internship in management consulting with Booz Allen Hamilton.  I also held several leadership roles as the President of the Consulting Club and as the Vice President of the Wine Society.

R: What kind of experience do you have?

M: There were obviously the two great years I spent at Georgetown where I learned a lot and worked harder than I thought possible.  Prior to business school, I was in operations management in the golf industry at Titleist and Cobra Golf.  My job responsibilities really centered around the product launch process for all new products.  That experience allowed me to really see how the entire business cycle worked.  I decided then that I wanted to be more involved with the product on the marketing and strategy side so I decided to go back to business school to take that next step.  I have a true passion for golf, and sports in general, so it was such a great experience to work in that industry.  Before that, I was in IT for a short time at Level 3 Communications.  Throughout my career I have always been involved with technology whether it be analyzing data or working with software to manage business solutions.  I am comfortable in a tech environment and have the analytical ability to dig into data and numbers.

R: What kind of job are you looking for?

M: I’m glad you asked...that is why we’re here, isn’t it?  I’m looking to get into a brand or product management role with a consumer goods company.  However, with my previous experience I am open to other opportunities in a corporate marketing environment where I can leverage my skills.  I did work for two of the leading brands in the golf industry and got hands-on experience managing a successful consumer product.  My operations background is useful for any business, and having had the opportunity to be so involved with the product I am ready to jump in on the marketing side.  I also have a lot of transferable general project management skills that will be valuable in any company.

R: Is there anything else you’d like employers to know about you?

M: I think the culmination of my education and experience has put me in a great position to succeed immediately.  I am an extremely quick learner with a thirst to continue learning.  Besides my education and experience, I have all of the intangible skills to make me a successful contributor: leadership, team work and communication skills, and most importantly, a drive and passion to succeed.

R: Mike, you sound like a great guy and a great job candidate...are you married?

M: That’s a great question.  Luckily, I married a great woman who is doing everything she can to help me find a job.  As hard as this process has been, she’s been right there with me the whole time.
